Wong Shun Leung was a martial artist from Hong Kong who almost single-handedly raised the profile of what was then a relatively unknown martial art, making Ip Man’s Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) famous throughout the former British colony.
Through ‘Beimo’ (Bare knuckle fights) Wong reportedly won 100 street fights against various styles earning himself the nick name “Gong Sau Wong”, king of talking hands (i.e letting his fists do the talking)
Sifu Wong believed that Ving Tsun should be taught as a SIMPLE, DIRECT and EFFICIENT combat system to cope with real world situations.
It is a fighting system requiring neither great strength nor great athletic ability. Instead the system uses your natural body structure to develop power, speed and efficiency.
We aim to continue Sifu Wong’s legacy by teaching his ideas known as Ving Tsun Kuen Hok (Science of Ving Tsun Kung Fu).
Our beginners class take place every Sundays 11am in a studio just 5 mins walk from Southwark station.
